Numerous communities and states are now offering Amber Alerts, advisories that go out quickly over area media in child abductions. I've heard them on Dallas radio, and though they hit you like a punch in the gut, the alerts have led to several successful rescues. This seems like a public service well-suited to weblogging: Subscribe to a feed corresponding to your area and receive any Amber Alert that is released in that area, which you can publish (or set up so it is published automatically).
