Greg Knauss is my David Eggers. I first got to know him in 1996 a few days after I saw the name "knauss" as part of a Lynx bookmark link in the referer log for Cruel Site of the Day (back then, I was completely obsessive about tracking daily hits to my site, which numbered in the dozens). When I read something funny by a guy named Knauss on a terrific personal site, I dropped him an e-mail and asked if he was the Knauss who visited my site. He was -- and tearing away his anonymity like that scared the hell out of him. All of this is an excessive introduction to another funny essay by Knauss in TeeVee. If you start reading all of his work, as I do, he might become your Eggers too.
