Politics Is Not a Team Sport

The novelist Andrew Klavan has written a completely insufferable ode to himself for being conservative that's getting a lot of praise.

The thing I like best about being a conservative is that I don't have to lie. ... This is leftism's great strength: it's all white lies.

I wrote a response for Watching the Watchers that addresses the need of too many Americans to treat politics like a sport in which your team rox and the other team sux.

Shorter Andrew Klavan:

Being a conservative means I can say anything I want, no matter how hateful or stupid, and claim to be speaking truth to power.

"The thing I like best about being a conservative is that I don't have to lie. I don't have to pretend... that all religions are a path to God."

Unlike us leftists, he knows the one true path to God. Wouldn't America be better off if it was run by people like him, who know the one true path God? Doesn't history show that everything is just sweetness and roses when people who know the one true path to God get to run a country?

(odd that my previous comment didn't come through)

"So all you Muslims and you Jews
We got big news for all of yous:
You'd better change your point of views today!
'Cause the Inquisition's here and it's here to stay!" -- link

I'm pretty sure everyone thinks they know the path to God, and that everyone else is an idiot. Would the internet exist otherwise?

And I'm not sure conservatives care about speaking truth to power, that's more a liberal thing. Not having to adjust your speech to the room is what Klavan's going on about, isn't it?

"Auto de fe, what's an Auto de fe?"

"It's what you oughtn't to do but you do anyway."

Good old Mel, I'll miss him. He is dead, isn't he?

DPS says alive.
