My Lunch With Tyson Tomko

Tyson TomkoWhen I took the kids to Chick-fil-a for lunch yesterday, we sat down next to this imposing looking man and his family. With his bald head, six-inch-long Fu Manchu goatee and bad-ass tattoos running from wrist to wrist over tree-trunk arms, I'm thinking he had to be one of three things: professional wrestler, rock musician or crazed South Floridian drug lord.

The latter was admittedly a long shot -- my only experience with South Floridian drug lords comes from Miami Vice and he was eating with a woman and two kids -- but it still kept me from approaching him.

"Oh, so you run coke up and down I-95? Does this mean an autograph is out of the question?"

For those who don't have Chick-fil-a in their area, it's a fast-food chain of chicken restaurants based in the South where every meal comes with a side order of ostentatious love for the Lord. The restaurants are closed Sundays, and on all other days employees constantly wish people to "have a blessed day."

I scored around five blessings in one visit, which is five more times than McDonald's or Taco Bell has ever expressed interest in my personal salvation.

As religious songs like "I Could Sing of His Love Forever" and "Shine Jesus Shine" played in the restaurant, my children were hanging with his in the Kid's Zone play area and I kept sneaking occasional Secret Service glanceovers, looking for some kind of clue that explained his appearance.

There was only one: He was dressed in shorts and had shaved legs, which suggested either a career in the entertainment business or a metrosexual lifestyle.

After he left, another patron clued me in: The guy was Tyson Tomko, a 29-year-old WWE wrestler from Jacksonville who has his own action figure.

Considering all the time I spent exhibiting an unhealthy interest in Tomko and his attractive female companion, I'm very lucky I didn't get an inverted spinning crucifix neckbreaker.

Are there really benighted areas of this earth that are not blessed with Chick-Fil-As? The horror. To be denied waffle fries and the best chicken sandwich in the history of mankind is a fate worse than Arby's.

Oh wait, I like Arby's too.

Hey Rogers, I think the title might be a little misleading. Maybe it should be "My lunch near Tyson Tomko"! Anyway I especially enjoyed your South Flordian drug lord theory, it really made me think "what does a South Flordian drug lord look like, and would I know it if I had lunch with one?" I came to the not-so-shocking realization that I would have no clue at all. I guess television and movies really leave us a vision of "crime bosses" that is probably 100% off base in every way.

hello Rogers, i dont remember if you were siting beside my table or behind me? you could have asked me any question you liked, as you could tell i was just letting my kid play killing time before she went to church.

Cool. If we run into you again, I'll definitely bring the boys up. When I told them you were a pro wrestler they wanted me to load the car up and chase you down.

I chased Mr. Tomko down about a 1/2 mile at Epcot in December, so my 8 yr old and his 7 yr old cousin could see him. He was polite gracious, and even thanked me and extended his hand as we left. Meeting Mr. Tomko was the hihlight of our trip, who needs Mickey Mouse, anyway.

Tomko is actually a pretty cool action figure.

Tyson Tomko may look like a drug lord but he really isnt. Well the WWE released him so maybe they thought he was a druglord.

PS. GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOO TYSON

Funny story. I was a fan of Tomko's style as were my friends. I thought he was well on his way to the Intercontinental Championship for a while. Keep on Chainsaw Kicking people, Tomko.

I can't wait to see Tyson Tomko's TNA debut. Him and Christian Cage's stuff in WWE was the highlight of RAW, and it'll be great to see it reprised in TNA. Everybody, make sure you watch TNA iMPACT Thursday night at 9pm eastern.

Travis will be happy to know you think his wife looks good(as will she) He is my brother and when he left for Japan this morning, everyone at the resturant had the same look as I am sure you did. He is a good guy and he's a great Dad and uncle. If you watch TNA wresting tonite(nov. 23rd) you will see him again

I searched Tyson Tomko on Google, and this page is one of the top links. I hope Tyson gets more TV time tonight on Impact!

That would be sweet to see him! You're pretty lucky. Thanks for sharing your experience

I really like Travis Tomko his great wrestler. I think his like Dave Batista by for the best wrestler ever! They are not letting him do what he really can do. Like they had Dave protecting HHH, his doing the same for Christan. They need to let go,away from him. So he can make a bigger name for himself. I think his Champion! But its really sad I have been looking for pictures of him and wallpaper,I have not had much lucky. Someone needs to make a Tomko wed site. Anyway, I think is the HOTTEST man on TNA!!!!!!!!

I am Travis's Mother and I was glad to read all the notes about my son,I am very proud of both my sons.keep looking for Tomko on TNA he is going to keep being bad to the bone! Start looking on the net,Ebay for things he has signed, or will sign and things worn in his matches ( shirts, hats, ect.) sdtomko

I think it's awesome to see Travis Tomko's family supporting him on this blog! I mean, his brother, mom and even one of his daughter's friends! That's so great to see so much love and support for a wrestler. I attend the TNA tapings everyother week at Universal Orlando, so I get to watch first hand as Tomko does his thing. I love his style and his attitude! I wish I could meet him to shake his hand, compliment him, and ask him some questions, it does get kind of frustrating being 3 feet from him everyother week but never getting to speak a word to him! Keep up the good work Travis! I'll see you next Monday!

And congrats for getting the TNA World Tag Team Championship belt AND keeping the IWGP World Tag Team Championship belt! Somebody's rockin the house!!

ok to all the STUPID PEOPLE who think they know tyson tomko... PISS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - KATIE

Props to my boy Travis, From the days when he ate steak at a restaurant I managed on Busch Drive to the late-night or early mornings we kicked it together at a club I owned. He really is a stand-up guy and deserves everything he's gotten. He worked hard for it!!! Get well soon and rehab that back...my girls and nephews love ya bro...Evolution 4-ever.

I actually worked at Chick Fil-A when he came in one night. He didnt have his kids along with him, it was just his wife. My boyfriend and his brother are fans of his, so finally, I asked for his autograph. He was really nice and chatted with me for a little bit. (Found out he got named after someone in a soap opera.) Overall he was a really cool guy, and I was excited to be able to meet him.

Tomko:
I would have gladly stopped over talked a while, and shaken hands with you,and wished you a great day,and instead of bothering you while you were with your family.Asked if you minded if I wrote you at Tna for an Autographed Photo.
Im glad you are having so much Success in Tna.You deserve it.
God Bless
Mike

In response to the first question... yes, there are horrible areas that dont have chick-fil-a. it sucks. I visit Virginia every year and chick-fil-a is always my first stop!!

& I love Tomko. I went to TNa last night but unfortunately, he wasn't there.... but i bought a shirt and am wearing it right now!!! hehe

Travis is my cousin, and one of the most gentle caring guys i know ,, very much the family man and just an all around good guy so proud to see him doing well for himself ,, thanks cuz for the good time at dinner in macon hope to see ya again soon and btw aunt sherrie and kevin was very nice to see the 2 of you as well love all of you

Hey if TOMKO you are reading this I want you to know I was your biggest fan. But when I saw what you did to AJ Styles a few months ago nearly killing him. That made me sick and I do not even like AJ. But when he lost the TNA tag team titles for you then took super Eric for the title shots. You should have gotten a new partner my hopes were jay lethal. Now I don't know who to cheer for but anyways your a good fighter but recently with a loseing streak no ofence. My advice to you would be flying moves, submission moves ,speed endurance, and you should really work on your singles matches.By the way terroracing Karen Angle and hanging out with KURT Angle and Team 3D is not a good idea.Look at AJ Styles and Kurt Angle there's no suport.Try joinig a good side because do what's right for TOMKO your own boss is not happening or working. By the way soon enough Kurt will turn on you or Booker T OR team 3D.

Your old fan Max
