Microsoft tries to improve data re-retrieval

Microsoft researchers are working on search technology that makes it easier to find things you've seen before, whether they're Web pages, e-mail, or documents on your hard drive. The New York Times describes the effort and other projects to improve our ability to rediscover digital information. The Stuff I've Seen project may become part of the Longhorn release of Windows. In a limited study of Microsoft employees who tested the software in 2002, it proved more useful at finding previously viewed items than bookmarks, Web search engines, and filing systems.
