PNG Live is a Netscape plug-in that
enables PNG images to be viewed and manipulated on a Web
page. It was published and distributed by Siegel &
Gale and had support for some advanced features of the
PNG graphics format. I described its use in Teach
Yourself to Create a Home Page in 24 Hours so readers
would have an opportunity to try out an emerging new
standard for Web graphics.
Development of PNG Live ended in 1997 and the
Siegel & Gale PNG site was taken offline in
early 1999. However, the last published version of the
PNG Live plug-in can be distributed by others
according to its license, so it is offered here. The
plug-in should only be used with Netscape Navigator 4
version PR3 or higher.
