A list of stories reportedly submitted for Harlan Ellison's anthology, which has become one of the most legendary unpublished books in literary history.
"An Infinite Summer," by Christopher Priest. It has appeared in the anthologies Andromeda 1, Trips in Time, The Best Science Fiction of the Year 6, An Infinite Summer, Light Years and Dark, and The Road to Science Fiction Vol. 5: The British Way.
"Dogs' Lives," by Michael Bishop. He explains in The Book on the Edge of Forever that he withdrew the story in 1984 to sell to the Missouri Review for a science fiction issue. It also has appeared in the anthology The Literary Dog and possibly in Light Years and Dark.
"Himself in Anachron," by Cordwainer Smith. This story was published in The Rediscovery of Man: The Complete Short Science Fiction of Cordwainer Smith (1993) by NESFA Press. The author's daughter is selling copies on an official Smith Web site. According to Ansible 76, when Ellison found out about the story's publication, he told a group, "They've got the story in the fucking book, and it kills the story for The Last Dangerous Visions!" Pull the god-damn book off sale now, pulp the son of a bitch, republish without that story, or I'm going to sue you, NESFA, and every one of you into oblivion!"
"Squad D," by Stephen King. According to a reader comment on Amazon.Com's Book on the Edge of Forever page, the story is about "Josh Bortman of Castle Rock, Maine, the sole survivor of a squad of American soldiers ambushed while on patrol in Vietnam."
