Art Bell Remarries, Will Leave U.S.
Paranormal radio host Art Bell told listeners on Coast to Coast AM last night that he has remarried, given his pet cats away and will be leaving the country, according to the show's web site:
During the first hour, Art shared the story of how he met, fell in love with, and married a very special Filipino woman, Airyn Ruiz. Art also announced that he will be moving to the Philippines on April 29th to be with Airyn, but will continue doing weekend Coast programs from that location.
Art Bell's wife Ramona died in January at age 47 of circulatory failure resulting from an asthma attack.
Last night, Bell announced his new marriage on the air and shared photos of the wedding to Ruiz, 21, who met him over e-mail after Ramona's death.
Bell broadcasts his late-night talk show and an FM oldies station from his home in Pahrump, Nev., a desert town 50 miles from Las Vegas near Area 51. He left regular hosting duties behind on Coast to Coast in 2002 and now appears on weekends.
Some fans on an Art Bell online forum took the news personally:
What is even more shocking to me, is that he's leaving EVERYTHING behind ... the desert area, his home, his cats, the list is endless. ... I never would have thought a time would come when Art would go a day without his cats, no matter what. On his first show after Ramona died, he said that at one point, his cats were what kept him from suicide.

I kind of figured old Art wouldn't be on this weekend. He wouldn't be able to take any calls if he was. Sure he could have had a guest, but I am sure some people would refuse, because of all that is going on.
I agree with the poster who mentioned smoking gun. They need to get a hold of some of the earlier Art issues.

Also about screened calls- yes they do careful screenings. I've never gotten through, but I did notice that when the anti-aging doctor Ronald Klatz was on, 2 calls were pulled up back to back who were former guests who just happened to call and chime in with their 2 cents and to promote their products/services.
I guess it works the same with screening callers. Maybe it's all cooked?

I had the exact same thought last night. What a crock. I've been an AB fan for at least 12 years, but this takes the cake. I'm done. My husband and I have been reading this page for 2 days now and laughing our asses off. It's sad, but it's also hilarious. BTW: Phil Hendrie rules!

I don't think we'll hear from Art again. And, I'm sorry. There was still a part of me that was hoping (and believing) this was all a big mistake and that Art would come on the air and explain and everything would go back to the way it always was. Apparently, he won't. And, it won't.
Art told us he contemplated suicide after Ramona died... perhaps what we've been seeing and hearing is just that... death by public disgrace.
He talked about how when one of the cats was ill, had a seizure I believe. He said how he cried as they rushed it to the vet, but when he woke to find Ramona that day it was to late. That part is true, then it was to late. But while she was struggling to breath and he was staying up with her that night, it wasn't to late then. He could have rushed her to the hospital then.

At first I was willing to be openminded and listen to his explanation on why he did this. However, after putting it all together it just does not add up.
I cannot imagine webcamming with someone just 3 weeks after my spouse died. Furthermore, I cannot imagine throwing my pets away as well as home and hearth to move to another country to be with my new spouse just 3 months after my husband died.
As for Ham Hock (God, that cracks me up) I think he's a vile pig who knew exactly what he was doing. What sort of "friend" sets up this sort of arrangement. Let's face it, he got exactly what he wanted out of this sick & twisted "deal."
I was listening the night AB came on the air and gave us a blow by blow description of Ramona's death. I thought something was very off when he mentioned that the next woman in his life would have to understand that Ramona was his soulmate. Who thinks of "the next woman" when their wife has only been dead for a matter of a few short days? That struck me as really odd.
Unfortunately, I was also listening when he made the belated announcement on his nuptuals. I was utterly disgusted when he kept asking all the men calling if they had seen the photo of his child bride. How smarmy.
Anyhoo, thanks for letting me post my thoughts. I'll continue to read, for I'm finding most of these comments to be utterly hilarious and spot on.
BTW, I do have moderate to severe asthma, and my husband always asks if I want to go to the hospital when I'm having an episode. There's no way he'd drive out to the middle of nowhere when I've been having a day-long attack.

You know, I bet Art thinks the stuff he is selling will sell at a premium because of who he is, hence mentioning it on the air, and that very well may be. On the other hand, the die hard (pardon the choice of wording) fans may not want an RV that someone died in. If they believe in half the stuff on C2C they must at least wonder if it is haunted, seeing as someones life ended in it against their will.
I found the new list. Not much going on there yet but as people on dial-up start using it to avoid the long refresh times, it should kick up. LOL!

I also thought mentioning that he paid Ham Hock's way was in really poor taste. Was he expecting props for doing that? This whole story is in poor taste. I always considered AB to be a bit of an egomaniac, but this is beyond the pale.

I wonder if Art had planned to tell us anything - had Ham Hocks not spilled the beans in that March email about Art getting married and leaving the country... maybe Art felt he had to convince us all he was truly in love again so he could make his get-away cleanly... had Ham Hocks kept his mouth shut, we might only have heard George say, "Well, folks, Art's decided to retire - again - this time, for good." And that would have been the end of it...

I wonder if there was trouble with Ham Hock's "engagement" being approved (by the family?) and he sweetened the pot with Art ($170 million). I think there is no question Airyn knew who Art was, when she emailed him.

Excellent point!!! I think Art really just lost his taste for the paranormal and the show has been suffering ever since. I'd say around the time Malachi Martin died it just went down hill. Then when they had Mike Siegal..(geesh) to be followed up by George Noory it just showed that he really didn't care about the show. Makes me wonder if he and Ramona were already drifting apart.

I totally agree. A true friend would not try to hook up a man and an almost teenager just 2-1/2 weeks after the man lost his wife. That's just sick. It's obvious to me that Ham Hock had ulterior motives, and AB bought right into the whole scheme.
In trade for introducing Airyn to Art, Art became Ham Hock's sugardaddy.

I can understand Art not wanting to tell his sons whole life story on air. It does seem though, since it is no secret he has a son, that he would have mentioned him at some point during this. It would have been appropriate during the 'My wife died' show, and it certainly bears bringing up during the 'I got married and I'm leaving the country' show.

The terrorist group operating in the Philippines is Abu Sayyef. They are primarily in the southern part of the country. I wonder if Art has done any research into that. Of course, the old goat is rich enough to afford body guards. It's still not out of the range of possibility that we'll end up hearing about a kidnapping one day. As a former 911 operator and military medic, Art knew better than to keep driving when Ramona could barely breathe. And to say later on his program that smoking had no effect on her asthma?---plainly ridiculous. You wouldn't find one doctor _anywhere_ who would concur with that statement.
I don't think he deliberately let her die, but his attitude seems to have been indifferent and fatalistic---he wouldn't lift a finger to prevent her death. His actions were not those of a loving husband.
The court pre-trial depositions revealed that Brain Lepley (the alleged rapist of Bell's son) did not deceive Art Bell IV, as the oral sex act between the two was consensual and that Bell Jr. was of legal consenting age. Lepley was tried and convicted, but the case was subsequently reversed by the appellate court.

Unless of course it's not the threat he and governments around the world have made it out to be...
Art took heat from fans on the Avian Flu issue - his position being contrary to George Noory's and many "experts" who've been given airtime. Guess we know what Art really thinks about Avian Flu now... just another lie in the name of furthering the spread of Disinformation...
Art uses the conspiracy theory stuff to boost ratings. That's the reason I listen to the show. It's a hoot! I've never gotten the impression that he believes any of it. The whole bird flu thing is, excuse me, a tempest in a toilet bowl. It's just another way of keeping people's eyes on the unimportant stuff.
Things that make ya go hmmm: I don't think they are involved in human trafficking, if that's what you're aiming at. I am listening to the original show... in the very begining he says she emailed him at his private email addresses with condolences about his wife.
But toward the end of the hour he says she had no idea who he was, or that he was famous or anything about him. He says he told her who he was about 2 weeks before marriage.
So why did she email him with condolences and find his private email if she had no idea who he was? Just randomly typing email and just happened to know his wife died?

I do not understand what is up with Art Bell. I question his motives not because I am unkind it is because I do not think what he did is not smart and it seemed so rushed. Why did he marry so fast? I personally have many questions about all of this.
Why get rid of the cats? Why move away? Something really doesn't settle well with me. Now I am not in his situation so I do not know the details but I do feel something is wrong about all of this.

I find it quite interesting that a man who basically made his career in conspiracy theories now has one attched to himself. If Art Bell didn't know that before - he sure knows it now.
Making his wife's untimely death and every detail of it the content of one of his radio shows was a big mistake. He made us believe that Ramona was his soulmate and many of us as listeners came to feel like we knew her and like her.
I thought that Ramona was a virtual saint to put up with him - especially with her being an asthmatic. Art's chain smoking, the many cats and their dander, the compound, the RV - the whole mess was an unhealthy formula for disaster.
We felt sorry for Art when Ramona died at at such an early age, only 47.
Then without any mourning period, he gets hooked up with a terribly young Ramona look alike on the internet via his bloated ham radio buddy. Then in just 3 months, he meets and marries the clever little bimbo - nearly 1/3 his age and brags to us that she's the most beautiful woman in the world. Don't think so.
Art prodded us a week ago on air - "Did you see the pictures? did ya? did ya? did ya?" Yeah - we saw all of them and they made this mess that much worse. How could her parents let her do this?

When Art built his radio program trying to find evil under every rock and then act as he has, the people he has conditioned to be suspicious and nasty and probing and distrusting are now doing the same to him.

We can certainly question Art's decisions and callous disregard of his wife's fresh memory and of his fans (and quite possibly of himself) without making a point of the stereotypes of the child-wife's nationality or the brother-in-law's size. As you can see, most of us weighing in from a kind or tolerant or practical or catty or nasty or hilarious perspective think this is a bad, bad thing. For, oh, so many reasons.
The point is that any way you slice it and any observation made--good, bad, ugly or indifferent--does NOT take away from the fact that too many of Art's fans (and fans are the only reason Art is where he is today; let's not forget) are very disappointed. And that includes the fans who are most definitely NOT "dried up and menopausal," as has been assumed and mentioned.

Maybe it's just imagination running rampant, but this whole thing sure reminds me of another famous celebrity whose behavior kept getting stranger and stranger, a fellow who would wave and smile and give crying statements on the air and arrive in pajamas when his day in court finally arrived... or break-dance on the roof of an SUV... or dangle his infant son from a balcony so adoring fans could see him...
