Art Bell Remarries, Will Leave U.S.
Paranormal radio host Art Bell told listeners on Coast to Coast AM last night that he has remarried, given his pet cats away and will be leaving the country, according to the show's web site:
During the first hour, Art shared the story of how he met, fell in love with, and married a very special Filipino woman, Airyn Ruiz. Art also announced that he will be moving to the Philippines on April 29th to be with Airyn, but will continue doing weekend Coast programs from that location.
Art Bell's wife Ramona died in January at age 47 of circulatory failure resulting from an asthma attack.
Last night, Bell announced his new marriage on the air and shared photos of the wedding to Ruiz, 21, who met him over e-mail after Ramona's death.
Bell broadcasts his late-night talk show and an FM oldies station from his home in Pahrump, Nev., a desert town 50 miles from Las Vegas near Area 51. He left regular hosting duties behind on Coast to Coast in 2002 and now appears on weekends.
Some fans on an Art Bell online forum took the news personally:
What is even more shocking to me, is that he's leaving EVERYTHING behind ... the desert area, his home, his cats, the list is endless. ... I never would have thought a time would come when Art would go a day without his cats, no matter what. On his first show after Ramona died, he said that at one point, his cats were what kept him from suicide.

Only a blind fool could fail to see that something is very, very wrong with this picture. The circumstances surrounding Ramona's death were troubling to begin with. (Who leaves a suffering asthmatic alone and goes to sleep instead of seeking medical assistance?) But the revelation that Art suddenly remarried some child and is fleeing the country is the icing on the cake. Foul play has to be investigated. Art's stories just don't add up. And his spineless "friends" who are too afraid to speak up are just as guilty as Art is of any foul play surrounding Ramona's death.
The whole story stinks from "coast to coast" and is nauseating.
Oh, and you can flush your career down the toilet, too, George Bore-y. Your wimpiness and apathetic acceptance of this sickening saga will cost you many listeners and eventually lead to the ruin of C2C. Congrats. Leading an investigation into this most disturbing sequence of events might have brought you legitimate fame and respect.
He could have said she was the most beautiful woman in the world..and left it at that..by saying she's the most beautiful woman he's EVER seen..that's where it seems that it is (and I think it is) a slap in Ramona's face. Art is lame and is thinking with his nether regions.

I really wish I had heard the show where he talks about the night Ramona died. Maybe someone will make that available like was done here with the show where he announced his marraige.

3. The rush into marriage. Simply out of respect for Ramona, Art had no business flirting with a 20-something year old girl beginning just DAYS after his "beloved" Ramona's death. He claims he was depressed to the point of being suicidal yet he found it easy and enjoyable to email a complete stranger and flirt?!? Then to actually marry again so soon is incredibly disgusting and inexplainable. No respect for Ramona -- his "soul mate" whatsoever.
4. Do I even have to point out how ridiculous the age difference is? Do you think Art actually believe$ thi$ girl married him becau$e $he'$ in love with him? Get $eriou$!

I listened the night Art explained, in great detail, about Ramona's death.I was deeply moved and saddened.I felt his grief through his words.I also heard when the alarm went off and the police showed up at his door.Art said the coroner said Ramona's lungs were hyper-extended due to her chronic and severe attacks.
Yes, I was stunned by his announcement of his marriage to a 21 year old.I felt he was making a big mistake! Also, getting rid of 3 cats (who helped him in his grief), his property, his belongings and moving out of the USA.All is happening way too fast and I suspect he is being taken advantage of!! All kidding aside on my part. I think Art has had some type of psychotic break. His so called friends are nothing but enablers. I don't think he actually killed Ramona but I think he realizes now that there was more that he should have done and it's driven him crazy. My anger is the fact that he hooked up with this chick a few weeks after Ramona's death.
With due respect for the very reasonable comments made by Inspector Clues-On, yes, I don't think any of Art's actions make any rational sense, and I don't disagree with some of the assessments on the choices either. For example, I can't imagine having a relationship with someone 40 years younger than me. Forget that the person looks like a child, but our experience gulf would be wider than the Pacific. But it is the positions that people take in looking at these actions that causes me to pause. We can take each illogical, to us, action, and go down that path to wherever dark alley we want to go. We can take all the actions in combination and go into an even darker place, i.e., the accusation that he met her on the net and wanted to dispose of his wife. That's too much of a stretch for me. I don't speak for Art, but I try to look at a person over time, not in a moment. I do think many people on this blog have cared for Art, as one blogger said. When we care for another, as much as we might not like it, we need to respect the decisions they make, as well. Also, as for giving away cats. I have had cats for many years. At one point, I had to move to another place, any place. I gave my cats away, intending to retrieve them later. That doesn't make me a terrible person. I thought they would be miserable traveling around the country with me on whatever strange journey I was about to embark. It is so easy to judge others when our experience fits in a square box.

Bell was arrested and charged with injury to other property, a gross misdemeanor.
Upon the request of his attorney, Hamilton Moore, Bell was sent to Lakes Crossing, the state's facility for mentally disordered offenders. Bell was evaluated by doctors at the Sparks-based facility over a few-week period, who found the man suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Kirk Vitto, there is no doubt to the reason why Bell became violent. "We just got the (Lakes Crossing) report this morning," said Vitto. "There's something seething in this boy and it's very clear what it is."
According to Vitto, Bell suffers from chronic PTSD as a result of an encounter he had with Brian Lepley.

I agree a bit, but Art Bell works with words. He could have said that meeting Airyn, he thought she was very beautiful. His remarks about how she is the most beautiful woman in the world sound like an infatuated schoolboy. He is so strung out on this young girl that he doesn't consider the impact that his words will have on Ramona's friends and family - they sounded like he had replaced Ramona with a shinier model.
By the way, the photos of Ramona show that she was a beautiful woman. I think she was taking steroids for her asthma (it seems she has the moon face that steroids cause), but you could see her fine features, bone structure and the depth in her eyes. In my opinion, that is true beauty, not the shallow patina of youth this new wife has.

I can not belive he would leave the country with a female younger than his son when his son needs him the most..so very sad...

A controversial new service is providing professional callers for radio
stations that feel ordinary phone-in listeners are not lively enough.
Stations that use the professional callers rarely identify them as ringers -
which is apparently part of the appeal of "Callers On Demand," one of several
programming services offered by Manhattan-based United Stations, a syndication
company partly owned by TV veteran Dick Clark.
"Our army of live' callers are standing by to jumpstart your morning show,"
reads a pitch on the company's website (unitedstations.com). "Let's face it,
most mornings, if the callers suck, you're out of luck. Why risk it?"
Callers On Demand, which is targeted mainly to music-station DJs who take calls
and do "phone bits" - but also available to all-talk stations - provides
improvisational comedians and impersonators who "talk about hot topics, bring
phone scams to life and generally act like real people.
"They'll be the dream listeners you really deserve, but so rarely get," the
website promises stations.
The rise of services that provide ready-made callers is part of a growing trend
in the media to spice up "reality" programming with seasoned pros.
One of the cast members of "Survivor" which debuted last night is a TV chef.
Another is a Hollywood actress, albeit a bit player.
United Stations programming VP Andy Denemark says a "couple of dozen" stations
have signed up for Callers On Demand - though none yet in New York City.
"There's nothing malicious about this. It's true comedic entertainment - not
like a doctor recommending a treatment or something," Denemark told The Post.
"I think it's pretty clear that it's satire," said Denemark. "Irene Ryan wasn't
really a grandma from the hills [on TV's The Beverly Hillbillies']."
No money actually changes hands. Instead, stations trade unused commercial
time, which United Stations can later sell to its own list of advertisers.
In exchange, Denemark says, stations take their pick from "our performers on
call - [like] a trailer park girl, a Chinese delivery guy, a 7-11 guy, people
who do accents.
"If you want to call the local 7-11 guy about the Super Bowl, you can't just do
it randomly," he says. "We have one person who does a brilliant five-year-old
girl who calls stations and . . . tells dirty jokes she supposedly heard from
her father."
"This is unbelievable," says Jack Swanson, programmer of San Francisco's
top-rated talkers KGO and KSFO. "If radio starts hiring fake callers to spice
up their shows, why not start making up news stories on slow news days?"
"It's one thing to do some kind of [obviously put-on] comedy, like a Bill
Clinton' call-in," said David Bernstein, program director of New York's WOR/710
AM, "but we do legitimate calls from legitimate listeners and wouldn't want
listeners to wonder if a caller was real or not."
A half-dozen other radio programmers echoed similar sentiments, and WABC/770 AM
talk show host Lynn Samuels complained that staged phone calls are "deceptive
to the listeners . . . and an out for lazy and untalented hosts."
Denemark expects more stations to sign up for Callers On Demand, adding, "We're
proud that we see a need and are able to staff up and provide for it."
The 7 SECOND DELAY on C2CAM is going to be getting a real work out. Remember, except for the news, almost nothing is "LIVE" anymore on radio or TV.
Even "THE VIEW" on ABC TV weekday mornings is on a delay and those windbags are getting MUTED all the time.

It's all there. Valium and religion didn't work to end Art's grief--or sufficiently distract him--so he went for the obvious choice: a MUCH younger woman (better than cleaning the cat box, I suppose). Now where have we heard that before? Everywhere? And I always thought Art was so original.

To be fair...I will say the pictures that someone posted a link to of the Ham Operator and his new bride... they do look happy. She is holding his hand, putting her head on his shoulder and really the both of them look as if they like each other. Ham looks in his 30's and his bride seems to be maybe 19 or 20... at least their ages aren't so far apart.
