Art Bell's Wife Dies Unexpectedly
Ramona Bell, the wife of syndicated radio legend Art Bell, died unexpectedly Thursday at age 47 while vacationing with her husband in Laughlin, Nev., according to an announcement by Coast to Coast AM, the program Bell founded and still occasionally hosts.
"At present, the exact cause of Mrs. Bell's death has not been determined," the announcement states. "It apparently took place during her sleep." An asthma sufferer for years, Ramona Bell reportedly experienced an attack before her death.
The Bells married in the early '90s after meeting as coworkers at radio station KWDN in Las Vegas. Art Bell broadcast his show from the couple's home in Pahrump, Nev., a remote desert town 50 miles from Las Vegas near Area 51, where Ramona booked guests and handled many other duties. The couple also own FM radio station KNYE, an eclectic oldies station they began in Pahrump four years ago.
Though Bell has not been an everyday radio host since 2002, he appears weekends on Coast to Coast, engages regularly in ham radio chats at call sign W60BB and is frequently seen on his studio webcam. The photo of the Bells ringing in the New Year was one of dozens contributed by fans to an Art Bell online forum since Ramona's death.
As befitting a host who became famous for covering paranormal subjects, Bell once claimed to have seen a UFO while driving with his wife, according to a July 13, 1998, Newsweek article:
Four years ago he and Ramona were driving around 2 am. on the lonely stretch of road leading to their house. "Coming up from behind us. oh my God, was a gigantic triangular craft," says Bell. "It had a strobing red light on the front and a white light on each back point. We watched it float across the valley for five minutes, before we lost sight of it."
Update: Art Bell remarried in April and announced plans to leave the U.S.

Art's house looks more like a compound.
I've heard some people on this post and other places say that Art is worth $170 million. That is probably more then Rush Limbaugh is worth. Why would someone with $170 million dollars live in a simple place in the middle of the desert - I imagine that his property in Pahrump is not worth much. Land is probably cheap there and the place that he were living was basically a double wide trailer. Even his cars were older... 1998.

Enoyed reading all these posts. Art's credibility seems to be in question from his own behavior. How can you support a man who treats his wife this way... as Art admits emailing a strange girl a few days after his wife's death. Saying his cats were his family and then basically tossing them aside. Maybe using a poor girl who had herself on the internet looking for a man to rescue her from her poverty.
Looking back on all the years I listened to Art I know think that maybe about 25% of what he said was true. While maybe guests like Hoagland may be real, I now am starting to think that maybe Art is a disinformation person... minimizing what real people say with fake stuff to get everyone confussed. Whether true or not I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to him again.
Someone who has such a soul to treat his wife's memory so poorly is a low snake. I found on a USA TODAY article that Rush Limbaugh signed a $285 million contract from 2003 until 2009 - Premiere Radio/Clear Channel saying it was the richest deal in radio history. I don't know if that includes his staff or not.

I remember shortly after Ramona's death how he complained that he didn't even know how to write a check anymore, because she had managed everything for him. And didn't know about buying groceries, or managing finances. It seemed like she was his administrative assistant and personal slave. Which makes me wonder how he thinks this kid is going to replace all of that.
I really think his career is done. He'll probably play around in Manila for a year, then get bored and come back to Pahrump divorced and retire once again, this time for real. I agree...I think he is a disinformation person and now for the grand finale he is making people like Whitley Strieber support him when he behaves like a cold hearted snake. Yet Whitley has these years of imagined friendship with Art. He is using his friendship to make his friends support despicible behavior and that makes people lose respect for them. If my best friend came up to me and told me they just married someone 39+ years younger then them 3 months after their spouse died, I'm sorry, but I would be just as disgusted as I am now. But Art has shown his ability to wield power over people. That with his complete lack of empathy or compassion towards the dead spouse would make me suspicious if it was the saintliest person I knew before that. I hope not, but in the annals of ufology and other paranormal studies, people with credibility problems often take down and entire organization. Could be the same with Coast to Coast. Right now, I'd say George is in a good spot to continue Coast, but if he did decide to quit, got sick (had a scandal of his own) or just could not do the show anymore, I think Coast may just collapse. And my reasoning may just be that a new host may not bring in the ratings (money) that George does now. And the 400 or 500 station monopoly may fall apart. Lastly, I hope the owners of Coast and its stations realize we no longer want Bell on the air even as a caller let alone a backup or weekend host.
Let's start a campaign to push Art Bell into a permanent retirement by contacting everyone possible from station managers, advertisers, CEOs, station comment lines, George Noory, and tell them,"We don't want Art Bell back on the air." If the momentum is great enough, even Art Bell will be fired. The ABC station (50,000 Watt AM giant) WJR 760 in Detroit, Michigan removed Art Bell, in 1995 after a loyal listener uprising. Maybe he got contacted by an insurance company and asked about his holiday excursion whilst disabled. There were a lot of pictures, some with him on his knees during the 3 hour (Art's own words on air) wedding ceremony, and the 14 and a half hour flight to the Philippines (Carl W Richardson's post on fantastic forum). I wonder how the disabled Hamhock wiped his own ass in those tiny airplane bathrooms, or did he just sit on a cork all the way there?

Cicero, don't you know that Carl is a TRAINED WRITER? He said so himself in these very pages. And as such, he's very sensitive...minimalist in his expression, to be sure, but a true artist. Look at the way he staggers the N and F words so that they zig-zag in between! It's wonder to behold. The very amount of time it took for him to complete each part of his oeuvre must have brought the sweat literally pouring from his furrowed, flabby brow into his beady little eyes.

And now, in his tiny little condo high above the city, Carl finds that all of a sudden, his wife spends a lot of time with her relatives, leaving poor Carl all alone with nothing to do. Hence the bursts of lengthy creative activity that we have all come to know and love.

In answer to your question,the other places are censored and only let people post who will not post anything in a negative light regarding Art Bell or his friend Carl. This is so against what we had believed to be true regarding the integrity of Art Bell and his purpose to provide a media to allow the free speech and uncensored converstation of topics. I loved Art Bell, but now I am so disappointed and disgusted with him that I don't care to listen to his voice. Formerly, I loved his voice and I thought everything about him. His genuine qualities made up for his lack of physical attraction. His inappropriate behavior regarding the death of his wife has made me question the validity of his purpose, integrity, reputation. Unfortunately, he distastefully appears to be selfish. I believe in the principles of LOVE, COMPASSION and FORGIVENESS for ALL. However, I do not feel he possesses the qualities to give the same to others. In a world of givers and takers, I have discovered that Art is a TAKER! It was inappropriate for Art to marry a young lady 40 years younger than himself, especially before the corpse of his wife was barely cold. What on earth could these two possibly have in common??? How shallow and empty. His gloating on the air about how, "Oh, my God. . ." how she was the most beautiful woman he has ever seen in this world, made me thoroughly DISGUSTED! Red flags went up when I heard him talking negatively about Romona's temper and complaining about her dropping her keys when she carried in the groceries. My husband carries in our groceries. My husband is a real man and this makes me appreciate my husband's unselfish, caring qualities. Regarding Art, it is ALL about Art! Bragging about holding up his books! When you brag about yourself, there is no need for anyone else to say anything. God doesn't close a door that He doesn't open up a window and let the sun shine in! In Art's situation, I don't feel he waited long enough to grieve properly and let his life unfold naturally. Instant gratification, so sad and too bad. I don't wish Art any misfortane, but I will no longer be a fan. I feel we are all connected and should care about each other, but that doesn't mean that we agree with the mistakes of those of which we care. It is also sad when people sell their soul to kiss the behind of a celebrity, just because they are somebody famous. What is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. I agree with this sentiment. I personally stopped listening to Art Bell back when Art was pushing Ed Dames on us as having accurate predictions when they were so off base and bizzaro to boot that I began to wonder what his motivations really were. So, I guess I wasn't completely surprised that Art Bell would do something so disgusting and cold, but I have to admit that when I thought of another Bell thing to do marrying a child bride 3 months after his wife's death never would have entered my mind in a million years. Convincing people to buy freeze dried planton, yes. Child bride, not in a million years. I thought his treatment of listeners who he led to spending a fortune on freeze dried foods and other crap told me all I needed to know about his cold hearted nature, but I did actually believe he loved Ramona and his cats. What makes me even madder now is that I do like listening to Noory, Ian and Whitley's shows and Art's behavior is damaging their credibility and every guest Art has on his show will look like they are condoning this disgusting behavior, so he is hurting the entire paranormal field. People in this field have such a hard time finding a voice that most will do his show I think even if they are disgusted by him, but in doing so it damages their credibility.

Obviously, sir, there's a need for this forum, a need that you acknowledged in your own words (see above). Other people have explained it to you very simply: there IS no other place to discuss this issue that hasn't been shut down.

Has anyone else listened to c2c since this whole thing? My addiction got broken, because it all seems a joke now. I put it on last night and heard some guest with a weasely voice like Aaron Donahue saying that Mars had water and all this other B.S., and I thought....now the heck does this weenie know something that NASA don;t know? So, I turned it off and started reading a book. For a few exceptions I will be listening for the ghost stories from callers on open lines, or a few of the guests....other than that, I can't take it seriously anymore.

I haven't listened either. I'm going back to reading books on the paranormal. You get a lot more out of reading the credible investigators books then listening to them on C2C anyway, but I did like the opportunity to hear the people talk about their interests and sometimes guests would call in and ask really good questions. Aaron Donahue is just another offshoot of Ed Dames, so I never found him credible. His voice sounds like he is Ed Dames.

About the only good to come out of the Ramona/Art/child bride fandango is the number of fans who've been shaken to their senses by this whole affair. But I am originally from Chicago and whenever the Cubs were in a big lossing streak (which happened a lot) you didn't hear the manager walk around giving interviews and saying things like, "hey how about those cubbies"..no the manager would just keep his head down and pray for a break before the whole ship went down..that is exactly what George is doing..Art has done enough to screw up the show..George doesn't want to start calling attention to it...can't really say I blame him...oh well, we need to get over it, and return to C2C, listen and enjoy...all though it is a bit like wrestling, once you know it's fake, it does take some of the fun out of it...oh well...life goes on..I'm not going to let some child molester stop me from being entertained on those nights I am up late..C2C has done a lot of good and has helped fill some long nights for security guards, truck drivers, etc....

I have read all the comments here from the moment it was announced dear Ramona, had passed. There are discrepencies and untruths being stated. How do I know this you ask? Because, I am a relative of Mona.
First, it saddens me, as well as, many other family members to experience the frantic pace of Arts change in life so quickly after her passing. Just three weeks after her death he boasts about a change that is coming. We were still focused on helping him get along without her in Pahrump and before we know it, he has already moved on to someone else. An expectation Mona expressed to us while she was alive was to stay connected to Art and assist him if she were to pass away before him, because she knew he would be devestated without her. And we attempted just that, but obviously not for long.
After Mona passed, Art had great concern for his personal privacy, hence no obit or flowers were allowed. He didn't just lose a wife...there was a loss of a great lady, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and daughter, that wasn't noted or acknowledged. Mona left behind many relatives who loved her and respected her. Who would know it? In addition, Ramona's brother did not die of an asthma attack as he stated. He choked to death on food...there is no relevence.
I think what's worse about it all is that Art did not even bother to contact his immediate family members (except for his mother-in-law) about his new bride or move to the Phillipines. No phone calls, or goodbye was expressed to his two brother-in-laws, two sister-in-laws and his two nephews after 14 years of marriage. We weren't even given an opportunity to go through any of Mona's personal effects to gather momentos of her life with us. It was as if we had no history or relevence to him.
It is true that Mona supported him in every way and performed way more tasks than the typical wife would do. It was exhausting and she did it all with such grace, committment and unconditional love. Her life duties and purpose were all about Art first, unfortunately, which she was growing weary of.
We can't help, but feel her memory has been disrespected. Although, we knew too well how dependant Art was on Mona there should be more to her legacy left behind then what little was shared by him on the air. So much more than her occasional temper that he shared so intently. That wasn't all there was to Mona. If you had the pleasure of knowing her you would remember her infectious, cackling laughter...no, there was way more going on with her and more she wanted to do with her life.
She was a devoted aunt to her 3 yr old nephews and so thoughtful and generous. They adored her, but Art wasn't as engaged nor comfortable around young children. The thought of him being a father now to a newborn is shocking and so out of character based on our experiences with him. We pray this child is lovingly accepted.
We miss Mona terribly, and love her more. We can't help, but speculate what she must be thinking about all of this. It's unsettling. We all realized that some day Art would need to move on with his life after grieving such a loss...the loss of a loved one, his "soulmate'. But, no one expected it like this...it's disturbing...it's disturbing the peace of a life not yet given a chance to be a memory.

My gawd, I just heard Art Bell say that his child bride is pregnant!!! Apparently she is having some problems with the pregnancy (and I don't wish her any ill), but he is such a damned old fool!!! He's going the whole Heather/Paul McCartney route with the anchor baby and doesn't even know it. Once she has that kid she'll take him for everything he's got and ditch him. do not do well on flights, ESPECIALLY CATS!
The stress alone will shave off a few years of their life. First you conveinantly
dispose (heartlessly give away, or whatever) your cats that
you CLAIMED to love so much with Romona, and now you replace them quickly with new
cats and are willing to ship them via a plane ride
to the U.S. while also stating that you may move back to the Manila in the future???
What are you going to do then? Ship them back to

It all appears to be more of a WIN WIN situation for Art's new wife!
He's old, and she is young enough to get on with her life just fine,
with Art's money, once he starts pushing up daisies. Even if she stays with Art the next 15 to 20 years, she will be young enough to still enjoy life in a youthful state of 40 something.
She can then date men her own age. She loses nothing! Sad thing is however, that her baby will grow up most of their lives without knowing their father, but does she care about that? Well, for people such as she and Art, their self centered desires disallow them to consider such matters and the well being of others.
I once saw a picture of her on Art's web page, which depicts her
wearing a t-shirt stating she is both 'naughty and nice' now I know
why. At least she knows herself, and admits it!

Guess what folks - there is no set time limit for grief! Some folks never remarry, some only start to consider dating after a couple of years, some after only a few months.....who's to say what's right? If he chooses to be with someone much younger - who cares? It is their choice.
Either all the people who are leaving nasty comments are close personal friends of Art Bell or they are ill-informed, better-than-thous passing judgement before getting all the facts. Sorry but I'm not surprised to see those very negative postings. All you need to remember is that there are many....many people that believe they understand how the whole world operates when likely they've never been far from the literal back yard. It's not a Philippines thing, it's not a USA thing, it's pretty much an "any foreign place" thing. Meaning culture. Meaning that there actually are some places where people DON'T fling hate at a man that appreciates....that desires a desirable and LEGAL AGE woman. Honestly, now that I am over 50, do you realize how very hard it is to meet someone of my generation who is first of all not attached and not fat? So, what's a guy, or girl, to do? Yes, I have hung out at a few Senior Centers, and you know why? I usually meet friendly, helpful and sometimes interesting people to share a meal with. That's more than I can say for any of the younger woman I've asked out the last number of years.

literally connecting Chinese, Koreans and Japanese to
the Philippine Islands which is archipelagos away from
the countries he has mentioned. I also wonder where he

Hispanics today do not mind sharing their "surnames"
to their Asian brothers who they have colonized for 3

Another sad reality that although most Filipinos
working overseas are domestic helpers and prostitutes,
who does he think educates the toddlers of Hong Kong,
Singapore, Taiwan and Tokyo? Parents of these
countries rarely have time spent with their children,
leaving them to their Filipino nannies. And with
regard to prostitution. Filipinos are not the only
ones working as one. I HARDLY SEE FILIPINOS STARRING
