Art Bell's Wife Dies Unexpectedly
Ramona Bell, the wife of syndicated radio legend Art Bell, died unexpectedly Thursday at age 47 while vacationing with her husband in Laughlin, Nev., according to an announcement by Coast to Coast AM, the program Bell founded and still occasionally hosts.
"At present, the exact cause of Mrs. Bell's death has not been determined," the announcement states. "It apparently took place during her sleep." An asthma sufferer for years, Ramona Bell reportedly experienced an attack before her death.
The Bells married in the early '90s after meeting as coworkers at radio station KWDN in Las Vegas. Art Bell broadcast his show from the couple's home in Pahrump, Nev., a remote desert town 50 miles from Las Vegas near Area 51, where Ramona booked guests and handled many other duties. The couple also own FM radio station KNYE, an eclectic oldies station they began in Pahrump four years ago.
Though Bell has not been an everyday radio host since 2002, he appears weekends on Coast to Coast, engages regularly in ham radio chats at call sign W60BB and is frequently seen on his studio webcam. The photo of the Bells ringing in the New Year was one of dozens contributed by fans to an Art Bell online forum since Ramona's death.
As befitting a host who became famous for covering paranormal subjects, Bell once claimed to have seen a UFO while driving with his wife, according to a July 13, 1998, Newsweek article:
Four years ago he and Ramona were driving around 2 am. on the lonely stretch of road leading to their house. "Coming up from behind us. oh my God, was a gigantic triangular craft," says Bell. "It had a strobing red light on the front and a white light on each back point. We watched it float across the valley for five minutes, before we lost sight of it."
Update: Art Bell remarried in April and announced plans to leave the U.S.

I thought exactly the same thing. She looks like one of the chicks on the reality shows, where they think a gorgeous hunk is coming out to date them, only to discover it is a hideous geek. And the T-shirt "naughty and nice"? Looks like something a stripper would be wearing, and certainly not something I'd be posting on my website, calling attention to the already obvious T&A motive for Art. Low, low class.
Maybe the whole thing is a sham for PR. Art always has said he loves the far east and Asia/Asian women. Maybe he moved there just to get away from painful memories of Ramona, and this child bride thing is just a hoax to build ratings?

The fantastic forum is the most kiss-ass of the Art Bell websites, so much so that spikemike has been deleting posts that are negative following a message from Art himself. Another member of FF said that he and some online buddies felt bad about Art after losing Ramona. So they chipped in and sent him a condolence/best wishes message and a hot pizza. The delivery guy got to Art Bells' and Art opened the door and told the pizza guy to f-off because he was busy-probably busy jerking off on the internet to his newfound love. So much for the grieving husband.

Don't cats and dogs coming into foreign countries have to be quarantined for 30-60 days? Those poor cats will be so upset losing Ramona and then being put in cages on the plane and then quarantined in some strange place maybe in poor living conditions.
How did Art arrange all the documents to marry, get the vaccines to go to a developing country, find a condo, meet all the requirements, and make arrangements for the cats once he gets to the Phillipines all in such a short period of time. Yea, I was told that in the Phillipines many of the middle class and up live in condos or subdivisions that have gates and armed guards. If Art is moving into a 19 story building or bigger the guards are for the entire condo building not just him. What an ego. Art's used to defending himself, but if you are found with a gun in the Phillipines you can get life in prison and I'm sure they could care less who you are.
You can read on many websites about the Phillipines, like some posted on this board, that there is a lot of criminal activity going on in around the Manila area and the surrounding communites, which is where Art said he was moving to. On one of his recent shows he tried to poo poo that when a lady called in to say that she had lived in the Phillipines and it could be dangerous. Art said he had lived in Asia before. That may be true but there is a big difference between places like Hong Kong and Singapore, and Manila. There are also a lot of gangs in and around the area. Criminals pray on Americans, Australians and Europeans. I don't think they'll care less that he's talk show host. That means nothing to those people there except for how much money they can beg from you. Art will be nickled and dimed not only from his new relatives, but everywhere and everytime he goes out. That would get old quick.
The U.S. Embassy warns you not to drive there because they basically have no rules of the road even in a big city like Manila, and the cab drivers are known to rob Americans and tourists. Most Americans that have to go to Manila to work hire a car and driver.
Seems like Art would be given up a lot of personal freedom that he's used to.
I give Art 3 months and he'll be back at his place in NV. Though he can't get a divorce, they do grant annulments if you can prove that you were under some kind of physiological strain when you married. Art could say that his wife had died and he was lonely and didn't know what he was doing.
He just likes youth. Remember when he used to drool over pics of crystal gail and Ramona taken when they were young? This new one won't have time to get old and unattractive.

George Noory had Art Bell on Coast to Coast last night. Noory kissed Bell's ass big time however, stopped short of congradulating him on his marriage to his child bride. Maybe Noory would rather kiss Bell's ass and fall short of congradulating him than to congradualte him, not say anything else. Bell said that 97 percent of the responses to his marriage were positive. Judging from this thread the opposite seems to be true. It seems rather incredible that Clear Channel agreed to have Bell broadcast his show from the Phillipines with all the hassles involved with doing such a project for only one night a week.They're probably hoping to cash in the the controversy. Nobody, especially Art Bell, is so powerful that he can squelch any and all publicity about himself. It's my considered opinion that mainstream media outlets just don't give a damn about him: not his show, nor his marriage, nor anything else associated with him.

After what happened to Bill after Monica, Clear Channel should have seen this reaction to Art's wedding announcement and advised him to wait (maybe they did). The C2C audience accepted Ramona's death until the wedding announcement made her death look suspicious.
The only part of the Noory/Bell interview that sounded sincere was George thanking Art for the opportunity to host C2C. Everything else was staged including "open lines". No love lost between those two.

I think my 60-year old husband knew what he was talking about when he said we look at Airyn and see our daughters. We ask ourselves, "Is that what we would want for them?" It brings tears to my eyes.
After listening to Art Bell for 14 years I threw in the towel after hearing his latest "Me, Me, Me" speech on air when he returned from his 'vacation.' Since around 1997 it has been stressful trying to ignore his numerous immature decisions. One was how he has always prided himself on vengeance. Hard to believe an adult would even talk about it on air, let alone actually feel that way. But none ever came close to topping his latest self-serving escapades since Ramona's death.
Art's abrupt detachment from his and Ramona's alleged beloved kitties is terribly sad. Poor little guys are going through their own form of grief during this time and could use an extra dose of love. Instead they're given away to strangers, and individually when they're use to living together. Is Comet getting the special attention he needs since he's so scared having once been a feral cat? And little Dusty is the little guy that Ramona and Art just adopted in Pahrump last summer. How lonely they'll be in their new places without each other. yeah, it reminds me that I am going to have to protect my daughter a long time after she is an adult. It also reminds me to help make sure that my kids have good sturdy financial legs to stand on when they are on their own, so that they never feel so desperate that feel like that have to do something that destroys their whole lives. This girl deserves to have a young man she is in love with to spend the rest of her life with. That part is just same old same old, Do as I say, not as I do conservative principals. I think this will have an effect on the ratings. There have been commercials on for Mission Impossible 3, and I know a few people who have said they won't go see it because Tom Cruise is in it. They have said they won't support him since he has been acting so crazy, even though they liked him as an actor before his brains went south.

Did anyone see the newspaper article that was in the local Pahrump newspaper about Ramona's death. According to the article Art would not return their phone calls (this is his local paper, mind you.) They say in the article that a spokesperson for Art called the newspaper and said that Art did not want them to put an obituary for Ramona in the paper and told them that Art did not want anyone sending Ramona flowers.
Many times family will say in lieu of flowers send money to such and such an organization. If Art is so concerned as he stated on his show that people need to know that Asthma kills then why didn't he say instead of flowers send a donation in Ramona's name to the American Lung Assoc.

Death and Loss in the Phillipines

Maria (a pseudonym) is a 38-year-old woman who was born in the Phillipines and lived for fifteen years in a suburb of Manila with her middle-class family of housewife mother, lawyer father, and five siblings. Maria's father relocated to the United States (California) when she was twelve, and the rest of the family followed in pairs a few years later. The family is very close- knit and strongly Catholic.
Maria began our conversation about the customs surrounding death and grieving by describing Filipinos as "very Catholic." She stated that even families who do not go to church regularly or who aren't strongly religious will fall back on Catholic traditions at the time of a death. While Filipinos will seek medical advice and use medical technology, apparently their fundamental belief is that a person's death is "an act of God" and that strong faith can thwart a death. When it doesn't, however, there can be guilt that one's faith wasn't strong enough to save a loved one.
Maria described many of the rituals surrounding death as very "showy." Women are expected to grieve very openly -- publicly sobbing, swooning, fainting, and/or hugging the casket of the dead person -- while men are typically more reserved. Maria was raised to believe that obvious, public grieving indicates how much the griever cared for the deceased and, also, lets God know how heavy the griever's burden is. She said that the Filipinos believe that the "more emotion shown, the more respect shown." Maria felt that another showy, public tradition surrounding death is the family's spending of lots of money -- on the food offered during visitation, the casket, the flowers, the service, the burial place -- to make sure that the deceased is seen as loved and esteemed. It is usual for families to talk openly and with pride about the debt they incurred as a result of a funeral -- the greater the debt, the greater the family's standing.
Since Filipino society is very close, people are expected to come together to grieve in groups rather than do so privately. Maria said that family and friends are expected to come forward to support to the grieving family and that not doing so is considered an offense. Filipinos judge the life and stature of the deceased by the number of people gathered for the visitation or funeral; and when people gather during visitation, there is very open discussion about the deceased and one's grief.
Maria said that when she lived in the Phillipines there were no nursing or funeral homes. People might visit hospitals briefly for acute conditions, but most people are cared for and die at home. (In the case of the elderly, the tradition is that the person would be cared for by the oldest child.) Once a death has occurred, it is considered very important for the deceased to be blessed by a priest to ensure he or she will get to heaven. The body is both prepared for burial and laid out for visitation in the home. Word of mouth is the main source of news about the death and burial. In the period after the death and before the burial -- which is between three and seven days, depending on how long it might take certain family members to travel to the town of burial -- the family stops all personal business. Instead of working or resuming normal activities, the family cooks and makes other preparations for the visitation that is ongoing until the burial.
As a rule, the casket is open and it is very normal for people to touch the body of the dead person. Maria said that Filipinos don't believe in cremation and feel a body should remain whole. Rosary sessions are held each night for thirty days to aid the deceased in getting to heaven. These sessions take place in the home of the deceased's family and are another opportunity/obligation for family and friends to publicly pay their respects to the immediate family of the deceased. At this time and throughout the period of visitation and funeral, Maria said that it is considered disrespectful to show emotions that are anything but "somber and depressed."
As was mentioned above, funeral arrangements -- such as the casket and flowers -- are very elaborate, since what occurs at the funeral is considered a reflection of the deceased's life. The funeral itself is a long procession on foot (since towns are small enough for the cemetery to be close by), with participants singing parts of prayers all the way to the cemetery. Maria said that the procession will take an indirect route to the cemetery and make its way around the town to give as many people as possible the last opportunity to pay respects to the deceased.
Maria mentioned that Filipino culture holds that the "longer the grief, the better." For up to a year and often beyond, men will wear a black ribbon and women will dress in black to indicate they are in mourning. It would not be unusual for a widow or a woman who has lost a child to death to dress in black the rest of her life. Other rituals that extend the period of mourning include holding masses for a specific dead person at several local churches over the weeks following the death. (Again, family and friends are expected to attend.) Families also visit the deceased's grave often for months after the burial (particularly on major holidays) and hold a special mass on the first anniversary of the death. In the case of relatives of Maria who recently lost a young adult, the mother, father, and two brothers slept in the bedroom of the deceased for six months after her death in order to be closer to her. This was considered only slightly unusual.

Ramona's Mom and the rest of her family are more than likely going through much grief and it looks like Art did want to acknowledge them in an obituary for Ramona, or maybe for some other strange reason?
Ramona's Mom did get to visit with her daughter 5 days before she died as per the Art Bell New Years Eve webcam picture at the top of this page.

Last night on the 75-meter ham band, all the hams were celebrating
joyously about Art's leaving the country today. They are apparently
all really sick of Art getting on the air and acting like "King Shit".
They were making all kinds of fun of him and ridiculing all the stupid
mistakes he has been making ever since Ramona died. They all seem to
believe that Ramona was the person responsible for his radio success,
and that without her he will collapse into the dung heap that he is
because he is such an inveterate fuck-up. Art was conspicuously
absent from the conversations, but he was obviously listening because
he did telephone several people (who he thought were his friends!) to
complain about what was being said about him. Those so-called
"friends" then got on the air immediately and told everyone everything
Art said because they can't stand him, either. He seems to have very
few, if any, friends left. And I must say that I agree with the hams
who dislike Art. He makes me sick. What a disingenuous hypocrite he
is. I hope he goes away and never comes back to disgrace the shores of
this wonderful country again, and I hope Premier Radio now understands
what a complete pain in the ass he is and lets Noory, et al, take over
his show. What was really funny, though, was how Art decided he was
going to "clean up" the ham bands (by which Art means, get rid of
anyone who ever criticizes him) singlehandedly, and he called Chief
Enforcer Riley Hollingsworth every day to make false charges against
his fellow hams until he had completely ruined his reputation and
credibility with Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth even had to write a
letter to one ham that Art had falsely accused of jamming, saying that
the charges levelled against him by Art were "fake". I'll bet Art
loved that! Hey, and how about that really cool haircut and hair dye
job he got after Ramona died, to try to make himself look younger?
That was really funny, too. It made him look like the old fart that he
is, only one with brown shoe polish applied to his hair. I'm telling
you, this guy is a complete fuck-up!!

How can this marriage be possibly true? And, I still say it is bizarre that a Filipino girl and family would participate in a total abandonment of all Filipino protocol for grieving (see prior post.
She was absolutely aware of his position and saw it as an opportunity to entice, seduce, and manipulate him. If she just wanted to be supportive, she would done just that and advised him that she would never marry so soon after he had become a widower.
There is a lot more to this story than we will ever know.

Jack has reiterated a good observation (and put many threads together very coherently) about "honestly" and "truthfully". Gavin DeBecker, who handles security matters for a variety of clients, wrote in "A Gift of Fear" that predators follow some set patterns.
One of them is "too many details". The person who is trying to prey on someone attempts to establish trust. Their own words sound like lies they are to their own mind, so they embellish with a lot of details. They will also attempt to establish trust by saying, "Trust me" or something similar. This fits in well with the con man comment of stressing one's honesty when it doesn't exist.
When Art was going on about Ramona's death, part of me was thinking, "Too many details" and "Why does he keep talking about how honest he always is?"
In order to establish more trust with their victim, they try to find commonalities that the two of them (may or may not) share. Things like, "I see that you have textbooks. I studied religion, too." By talking about his cats, his interests, his home and his first soulmate, Art seems to be trying to establish a rapport with his listeners. After all that has gone on recently, I think that this is unreal. He seems to be very good at charming people.

One thing that bugs me is that Art was going to let us all feel sorry for him and allow us to tell him on his show how sorry we felt about Ramona's death for ONE YEAR, WHILE really in the meantime he had remarried and was living in another country. According to what Art said on his own show, was going to wait a year to tell us something big.
His Ham buddy slipped and let the cat out the bag so Art had to come clean about his communicating with Ariyn by email a few days after Romana passed away and then hooking up with Ariyn via videoconferencing soon after, becoming engaged and then marrying her. (Who in their right mind would be emailing a strange woman during the couple of days and weeks of their wife's funeral.... gross.)
So Art was going to let all his fans and listeners feel sorry for him for a year, while he was actually happy and living in another country with a young wife?
So that tells me that Art planned to actually get on the radio and pretend that he was upset and lonely with Ramona's passing for an entire year, while actually he was living with the new love of his life and a new wife. Yikes.
Why should any of us believe anything he tells us on his show if he was willing to lie and have us feel sorry for him for an entire year, and obviously Art wasn't going to moarn a woman he lived with for 15 years.
I don't think I'll ever be able to listen to Art again with the same trusting that I once had. And hearing on this board how he has treated the memory of his wife after her death has turned me off of him forever. How can anyone listen to his show without thinking of the lies he wanted to tell and the way he treated his wife's memory.
Ramona may get her payback, because people I have talked to who were in the military and were in the Phillipines say that it is not a place that any American would just move to, let alone a supposed millionaire talk show host. So Art's new home is not going to be like living in some beautiful village in Italy, Hong Kong or Spain, but a scary, violent and disease filled country run by the Chinese red Army, violent gangs, and terrorist groups.

Sad to say, but someone doesn't become a great liar in one day. I agree with the other posts here - if Art is willing to lie (as he stated on his own show "I have something to tell you a year from now")about his new wife so easily while he allows his listeners to feel sorry for him and his wife's death for one whole year and had not planned to say he had remarried than he must have a heart of stone, or be just in it for the money and/or fame. Maybe he knows that some of his guests are truthful and some are not, but he doesn't care as long as we listen and believe what he says. And as long as Clear Channel and Art, himself, make a buck. I want to thank Rogers Cadenhead for this board. I hope it continues. I noticed that other boards abour Art and Ramona's death didn't get many hits and after a few days there were no longer any posts. What ever happens with Art and his show will probably be over a year or two. I would like to ask Rogers Cadenhead to play journalist and let us know what he hears, and if possible allow us to post. Art was a liar. He said that he never screened phone calls. Well, guess what, I was hung up on by him numerous times, while using the Wild Card line. If he didn't like your subject, he hung up the phone and proceeded to screen calls. "I am not a crook."

UNLESS Art Bell took Catechism here in the US. Even on a rush job it usually takes a couple months. That means Art had made his escape plans very near or even BEFORE his "soulmate's" death.
Of course Art may have taken advantage of the late Father Malichai and forged his signiture on some letters.

CICERO - Thanks for the info on getting pets into the country. When Art was on with Noory a week or so ago he said that he had decided to take 2 of the cats. It doesn't sound like you can decide to do this last minute. If I read it correctly you have to get the wheels in motion and your paper work in order 30 DAYS ahead. SO is Art REALLY taking the cats or just telling us that to get us off his back. ????

Yea, how did Art meet the Catholic requirements for pre-martial counseling and such which according to the details on the Phillipine website on a priest marrying a couple.

How did Art jump through all these hoops so fast on getting married and moving to the Phillipines. He has to do certain things to be able to stay in the country longer then 6 months.

Cicero, it's about time someone did.
Two points:
1. Announcing his engagement to a new "soul-mate" just two-weeks after the former wife's funeral makes the death look premeditated.
2. The age of the new wife (which has yet to be verified) vindicates Oats and Stevens.
American's relocating to the Phillipines are only allowed to bring $75,000 into the country. One reason is that the Phillipine govt does not want rich outsiders coming in and changing their political policies, or influencing their politicians or the Church. Art is not allowed to even purchase any real estate. His wife can buy property, but it must be in her name.
I'm sure that there must be ways to get around certain things, but you would have to have someone quite powerful behind you. Maybe Clear Channel???? Clear Channel may have friends that could assist Art, but how would THEY benefit from helping him. Someone in their corporation must think that Art's recent behavior is odd. Just more unanswered questions.
He said he would be there at least a year. Didn't he say he might come back?He also mentioned something about staying in the condo for now; maybe buying property later. What happens in a year?
Also, Re her funeral: He said he bought a plot next to hers and he had their wedding rings soldered together because they had talked about that and it was what she wanted. How many cemetaries in Pahrump?
