It seems a little dumb to care about such things, but I'd like to see Elizabeth Vargas or another talented female newscaster replace Peter Jennings on World News Tonight. We've ventured far enough into the 21st century to retire the idea that the voice of authority in this country comes in only one octave.

We've ventured far enough into the 21st century to retire the idea that the voice of authority in this country comes in only one octave.

But not yet so far in that the antiquated voice of authority needs to come from your television at 7pm EST?

I believe whoever was sitting in for Rush Limbaugh today said it very well, and I paraphrase, "If, after having a news story Yahooed, Googled, Drudged and blogged all day, you still need Brian Williams to tell you about it then something is wrong."

The three evening newscasts have a combined audience exceeding 20 million people. The highest-rated show on Fox News, Hannity & Colmes, has 2 million. There's still a pretty significant place for those newscasts.
